Guiding Star -a cornerstone of Nagoya’s reggae culture since 1990.
Guiding Star is a veteran reggae and dancehall crew from Nagoya, Japan, established in 1990 by legendary selector Trigga, who had already made his name in the local scene since the late 1980s through his skillful juggling style. (Trigga has been inactive since late 2008.)
In 1994, G-Conkarah joined as MC/selector and became a key force in shaping the crew’s identity. Together, Trigga and G-Conkarah built Guiding Star into one of Nagoya’s most respected names in reggae culture, performing nationwide at clubs, festivals and dancehall events, while also releasing influential mixtapes that helped define an era of Japanese dancehall.
Throughout its history, the crew also included members such as Chatman, active from the early years until 1999, and B.K, who joined in late 1999 and remained until mid-2006. Yet the long-standing partnership of Trigga and G-Conkarah became the defining combination, bringing their style to audiences across Japan, from Hokkaido to Kyushu and Okinawa.
Guiding Star became known for a unique juggling approach, combining classic and modern Jamaican music with original dubplates, alongside R&B, hip hop, disco and pop selections. Their ability to move seamlessly across styles, backed by G-Conkarah’s hardcore MC delivery, established a sound recognized for both unpredictability and consistency.
The crew has worked as support for Japan tours by artists including Sugar Minott, Cornel Campbell, Carlton Livingston, Brigadier Jerry, Junior Cat, Ward 21, Mr. Lex, Da’Ville, Ricky Trooper, and Downbeat The Ruler, as well as Nagoya’s internationally known reggae artists Ackee & Saltfish and Nahki.
As promoters, Guiding Star also played a major role in introducing authentic Jamaican culture to Japan, independently organizing events featuring Luciano, Bitty McLean, Cocoa Tea, Marcia Griffiths, Sanchez, Flourgon, Voice Mail, and Stone Love (Rory & Iceberg). They were instrumental in several first-time Japan appearances, including Bitty McLean, Da’Ville, Bushman, Conrad Crystal & Suga Roy, and Ward 21. The late great Sugar Minott, a longtime friend of the crew, was invited to Japan four times through their efforts.
Since 2002, G-Conkarah has led the crew’s production activities, launching a label that evolved through Stars Arena, Red Hot, and Guiding Star Muzik, and now continues as G-Governor Music. Through this platform, numerous releases were produced and several new artists were introduced to the scene.
For over three decades, Guiding Star has remained dedicated to sharing the authenticity, spirit and enjoyment of Jamaican music and culture, helping deepen the roots of reggae and dancehall in Japan.

ガイディング・スター – 1990年から名古屋のレゲエカルチャーのコーナーストーン
Guiding Starは、日本の名古屋出身のベテラン・レゲエ/ダンスホールクルーであり、1990年に伝説のセレクターであるTriggaによって設立された。Triggaは1980年代後半から既に地元シーンでその技術的なジャグリングスタイルにより名を馳せていた。（Triggaは2008年後半から活動を休止）
1994年にG-ConkarahがMC／セレクターとして加入し、クルーのアイデンティティを形作る重要な存在となった。TriggaとG-Conkarahはともに、Guiding Starを名古屋のレゲエカルチャーで最も尊敬される名前の一つに築き上げ、クラブやフェスティバル、ダンスホールイベントなど全国でのパフォーマンスを行うと同時に、日本のダンスホールの一時代を定義する影響力のあるミックステープもリリースしてきた。
その歴史の中で、クルーには初期から1999年まで活動していたChatmanや、1999年後半に加入し2006年半ばまで在籍したB.Kなどのメンバーもいたが、TriggaとG-Conkarahの長年にわたるパートナーシップこそが象徴的な組み合わせとなり、北海道から九州、沖縄に至るまで日本全国の観客に彼らのスタイルを届けた。
ガイディング・スターは、クラシックとモダンなジャマイカンミュージックをオリジナルのダブプレートと組み合わせ、さらにR&B、ヒップホップ、ディスコ、ポップなどの選曲も加えた独自のジャグリング・アプローチで知られるようになった。G-ConkarahのハードコアなMCスタイルに支えられ、スタイルをシームレスに行き来する彼らの能力は、予測不能な選曲と一貫性で認められるサウンドを確立した。
またシュガー・マイノット、コーネル・キャンベル、カールトン・リビングストン、ブリガディア・ジェリー、ジュニア・キャット、ワード21、レックス、ダヴィル、リッキー・トゥルーパー、ダウンビート・ザ・ルーラーなどや、名古屋の国際的に知られるレゲエアーティスト、アキ＆ソルトフィッシュやナーキのジャパンツアーにおいてのサポートクルーとしての活動も盛んに行ってきた。
プロモーターとしても、Guiding Starは、本格的なジャマイカ文化を日本に紹介する上で重要な役割を果たした。彼らは独自にルシアノ、ビティ・マクリーン、ココ・ティー、マーシア・グリフィス、サンチェス、フロアゴン、ボイスメイル、ストーン・ラブなど多数のアーティストによるイベントを開催した。ビティ・マクリーン、ダヴィル、ブッシュマン、コンラド・クリスタル＆シュガー・ロイ、ワード21など、日本で初となるアーティストの公演にも彼らは重要な役割を果たした。偉大なる故シュガー・マイノットは、クルーの長年の友人であり、彼らの尽力により日本に4度招聘を果たした。
2002年以降、G-Conkarahはクルーの制作活動を主導し、Stars Arena、Red Hot、Guiding Star Muzikを経て進化したレーベルを立ち上げ、現在はG-Governor Musicとして活動を続けている。このプラットフォームを通じて、多くの作品が制作され、複数の新しいアーティストがシーンに紹介された。
30年以上にわたり、Guiding Starは本格的なジャマイカンミュージックと文化、精神、楽しさを共有することに専念し、日本におけるレゲエおよびダンスホールのルーツを深める手助けをしてきたのである。
