Katsuo “G-Conkarah” Goto

G-Conkarah is a producer, mix engineer, riddim builder, MC and selector (DJ) from Nagoya, Japan, with over 30 years rooted in reggae and sound culture.

He began in the early 1990s as part of the influential Nagoya reggae crew Guiding Star, building his foundation through live sessions, dubplate recordings and nationwide performances. From 1997 to 2001, he ran Cassette Star Productions, distributing imported mixtapes and live sound session tapes from Jamaica and New York, while selling exclusive self-curated mixtapes throughout Nagoya’s street and club scene.

That direct involvement in grassroots music distribution, together with dubplate recording sessions in studios across Jamaica and Brooklyn, became a key inspiration for launching his own production activities in 2002.

His commitment to Jamaican culture extends beyond music. Through G’s Delight, his Jamaican cuisine business, which he has operated for many years, he has also helped introduce and promote authentic Jamaican culture in his hometown of Nagoya.

Over the years, G-Conkarah has worked with reggae legends including Sugar Minott, Mighty Diamonds, Cornel Campbell, Leroy Sibbles, U-Roy, Brigadier Jerry, Josey Wales, Junior Cat, Ward 21, Spragga Benz, Luciano, Lukie D, Nahki, Steely & Clevie, and Sly & Robbie. He has also collaborated with major Japanese hip-hop figures such as TOKONA-X, ‘E’qual (M.O.S.A.D.), AK-69, DJ RYOW, and DJ Hazu, helping connect reggae and hip-hop culture in Japan.

Having spent extended periods in Kingston throughout the early 1990s — what he describes as his personal “Reggae School” — G-Conkarah developed a deep understanding that Jamaican music has always evolved through fusion. This perspective continues to shape his work, where reggae and dancehall remain the foundation while naturally expanding into hip-hop, R&B, Afro-inspired rhythms and bass music.

Through G-Governor Music, the independent label he operates, G-Conkarah continues to produce innovative music alongside fellow label artist Tone through their production team GT1. Under the title Head Ninjah Inna Charge, he continues to build Ninjah Order—a creative movement connecting Jamaican roots, Japanese identity, and forward-thinking sound.

G-Conkarahは日本の名古屋出身のプロデューサー、ミックスエンジニア、リディムビルダー、MC、セレクター（DJ）であり、30年以上にわたりレゲエとサウンドカルチャーに根ざした活動をしている。

彼は1990年代初頭、名古屋の影響力あるレゲエクルーGuiding Starの一員として活動を始め、ライブセッション、ダブプレート録音、全国的なパフォーマンスを通じて基盤を築いた。
1997年から2001年まで、Cassette Star Productionsを運営し、ジャマイカやニューヨークから輸入したミックステープやライブサウンドセッションのテープを配布する一方、厳選した自作ミックステープを名古屋のストリートやクラブシーンで販売していた。

その草の根的な音楽配信への直接的な関与と、ジャマイカやブルックリンのスタジオでのダブプレート録音セッションは、2002年に自身のプロダクション活動を開始する上で重要なインスピレーションとなった。

彼のジャマイカ文化への献身は音楽を超えて広がっている。G’s Delight (彼が長年運営しているジャマイカ料理事業)を通じて、彼は故郷の名古屋で本格的なジャマイカ文化の紹介と普及にも貢献している。

長年にわたり、G-ConkarahはSugar Minott、Mighty Diamonds、Cornel Campbell、Leroy Sibbles、U-Roy、Brigadier Jerry、Josey Wales、Junior Cat、Ward 21、Spragga Benz、Luciano、Lukie D、Nahki、Steely & Clevie、Sly & Robbieなどのレゲエのレジェンドたちと仕事をしてきた。また、TOKONA-X、’E’qual (M.O.S.A.D.)、AK-69、DJ RYOW、DJ Hazuなどの主要な日本のヒップホップアーティストともコラボレーションし、日本でのレゲエとヒップホップ文化の橋渡しを行っている。

1990年代初頭からキングストンに幾度も滞在し、彼が自身の「レゲエスクール」と呼ぶ経験を積んだことで、ジャマイカ音楽が常にフュージョンを通じて進化してきたという深い理解を培った。この視点は彼の作品にも引き継がれ、レゲエとダンスホールを基盤としつつ、自然にヒップホップ、R&B、アフロに影響を受けたリズムやベースミュージックへと拡張している。

自身が運営するインディペンデント・レーベル「G-Governor Music」を拠点に、レーベルメイトのToneとプロダクションチーム「GT1」を結成し、革新的な音楽制作を続けています。さらに、「Head Ninjah Inna Charge」の称号のもと、ジャマイカのルーツ、日本のアイデンティティ、そして先進的なサウンドを融合させるクリエイティブ・ムーブメント「Ninjah Order」を推進しています。
